Wanaka’s 2014 Rodeo a huge success

Despite mixed weather, the Wanaka Rodeo Club’s annual event, last Thursday, January 2nd, was a resounding success.  Rain was forecast but didn’t eventuate, and a generous crowd of over 3000 spectators, ready to be entertained, flocked through the gates.  The crowd’s enthusiasm didn’t wane, even under a couple of passing showers, as they made the most of five hours of quality rodeo performances, a wealth of sideshows, stalls and food stands, and live dance and musical entertainment.  The stock performed well with only a couple of re-rides required, and a number of second division winners did well enough to break into the Open category.  A full list of the winners and place-getters is available on the NZRCA website (click on the link on the home page above).

Two Working Bees for final preparation

Wanaka Rodeo Club members are being asked to pull together in two working bees for the final preparations for the annual rodeo next Thursday,  The first working bee is on Tuesday at 1:00pm;  and the second at the same time on Wednesday.  Club members are encouraged to turn up for one or other as there are still plenty of last minute jobs which need to be done.

Scott and Bell to perform at the Rodeo

Not only will there be great rodeo action at the Ray White Wanaka Rodeo on Thursday, January 2nd, but some seriously good talent has also signed up to perform during and after the rodeo.

The southern duo, Cameron Scott and Kaylee Bell, will provide the feature entertainment live at the Arena after the completion of the rodeo.  Local dance troupe, Rhythm Superkids, will also perform during the break between the Second Division and the Open events.

With the combination of live music, dance performance, novelty events and carnival entertainment, the Wanaka Rodeo is designed to provide a broad range of family entertainment across a full day .

Bullock Bar offers free transport

One of the Wanaka Rodeo’s sponsors, the Bullock Bar, will provide free transport to and from the Wanaka Rodeo on January 2nd.  In a recently announced deal, the Bullock Bar owners agree to arrange buses, provided by Yello Transport, from the Bullock Bar, on Ardmore Street, to the Wanaka Rodeo grounds, off State Highway 6, near Albert Town, and return to the Bullock Bar.  Further details of the bus timetable will be posted soon.

Successful Working Bee

A very successful working bee was held on Saturday, November 9th with a large turnout of Club Members. A new herring-bone arrangement has been constructed in the time-event yards to make it easier to bring stock up during competition. The posts have all been driven for the new post and rail fence at the public entrance. The grass has struck well, has been mown and looks lush. The arena fence has been adjusted to accommodate the new time-event box and the Club House exterior has been freshly painted. The grounds are now well on the way for being ready for Wanaka’s Annual Rodeo on January 2nd.

Wanaka Rodeo Jackpot

A new Wanaka Rodeo Club Jackpot will be held on the 23rd and 24th of November, 2013. Starting at 1:00pm on Saturday (three go rounds) and finishing midday on Sunday (two go rounds). A social function will be held at Luggate Hotel on Saturday evening.

Events: Barrel racing (two divisions)
Calf roping
Team roping (enter twice – pick & draw);
Steer ride.

Entry fee: $30 per event.

New Clubhouse

Work is underway to convert an existing building into our new clubrooms. It is in an ideal position on the top of the amphitheatre looking out over the arena. It will be used as the bar during rodeos. The aim is to christen this important addition at our Jackpot Rodeo in November.

Wanaka Rodeo 2014

Organisation of the 2014 rodeo to be held on the 2 January at our great new and improved rodeo complex on the Albert Town Reserve is well under way. We have increased the size of the amphitheatre which can now accommodate up to 6,000 spectators and have upgraded the facilities. There will be an expanded choice of food and beverage and activities for the children.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with our traditional supporters but are also inviting others to come onboard and reap the exposure this renowned rodeo event will provide. Big thanks to the following who are already onboard:
