Warm, calm, autumn weather, coupled with an enthusiastic crowd and a slickly run operation, meant a hugely successful National Finals at the Wanaka Rodeo Club grounds, near Albert Town, last week.  Held on Saturday 8th March and Sunday 9th March, spectators at the National Finals witnessed some highly entertaining and competitive performances over the three go rounds, resulting in Patrick McCarthy, of Rakaia, winning the All-Round Champion title for the first time.

The Wanaka Rodeo Club earned kudos for its well run operation over the two days, including many comments from experienced rodeo supporters that it was “one of the best National Finals ever”.  Wanaka Rodeo Club President Lyal Cocks said he was very proud of the tremendous effort all the club members made to pull off this significant event. He was particularly pleased with the quality of the stock and their performance over the two days. “The weather was perfect, the crowds were happy, the competitors rose to the occasion, and the result was an excellent Finals rodeo.”
